Maria Vendetti's best of 2010

Feb 2, 05:09 PM

Ok, here is my top 10 of 2010, in no particular order. Better late than never? In my defense, I have elected to officially start 2011 on 1st Feb, so by that reckoning it’s not quite so bad. Also, it’s Chinese New Year! Let’s go with that. Some of them may not really slip into the “snack” category, but, for me at least, the snack/meal border is very blurred. I’m kind of surprised there’s only one French thing on here – there were tons of awesome meals and pastries in France, but these are the foods that really came to mind spontaneously.

  1. Lamb dumplings at Mission Chinese Food.
  2. Lamb burger at Xi’an Famous Foods
  3. Scrambled egg and chicken-apple sausage on the best biscuit I’ve ever had at Ms Dahlia’s Cafe, Bed-Stuy, NY
  4. Salted caramel frozen custard at The Shake Shake, Madison Square Park, NY
  5. Cochinillo & roquefort on a soft roll, La Goleta, Seville
  6. Fresh pain des amis (basically just very old-fashioned, crusty French bread (not a baguette)) with salted butter, Du pain et des idees, Paris
  7. Frank Lloyd Wright cocktail at Bourbon and Branch, San Francisco – Bourbon, pear liqueur, nocino, Islay whiskey, bitters
  8. Goat super burrito, sin crema, con salsa rioja, from La Esperanza Grocery, Santa Cruz
  9. Goat tacos, El Jalisciense taco truck, Hegenburger Ave, Oakland
(No pics or website or yelp reviews but if any ISC’ers are coming this way I will take them there!)
  10. Sandwich disguised as cake (I didn’t eat this, was too scared), old-man bar, Seville
